ü  The fourth deputy governor’s post has been vacant since SS Mundra retired on July 31, 2017. In his new role, Jain is expected to be put in charge of banking supervision.

ü  Former NIA chief Sharad Kumar has been appointed as vigilance commissioner in the probity watchdog Central Vigilance Commission (CVC).
ü  Mr. Kumar has been appointed vigilance commissioner in the Central Vigilance Commission for a term of four years.
ü  62-year-old Mr. Kumar is a 1979-batch IPS officer of the Haryana cadre. He retired in September last year after heading the National Investigation Agency, an anti-terror probe organization, for over four years.

ü  Banks Board Bureau (BBB) is an autonomous body of the Government of India.
ü  Tasked to improve the governance of Public Sector Banks, recommend selection of chiefs of government owned banks and financial institutions and to help banks in developing strategies and capital raising plans.
ü  In February 2016, the Modi government approved the proposal for setting up BBB and it started functioning from April 2016.

Ivan Duque won election to become Colombia's President
ü  Colombia has chosen Youthful right-winger Ivan Duque to be its next president after a long campaign that often centered on a controversial peace process with leftist rebels the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).
ü  With 98% of votes counted, Mr Duque had 54% of the vote, giving him an unassailable lead over his only rival, former leftwing Gustavo Petro, who had 41.8%.
ü  Duque will be Colombia's youngest ever President (42 years).

ü  The government appointed Arijit Basu as managing director of country's largest lender State Bank of India (SBI).
ü  Mr Basu has held several key positions in various circles of SBI including bank's office in Tokyo, Japan.
ü  Basu started his career with State Bank of India in 1983 as a probationary officer.
ü  Rajnish Kumar as the chairman of the bank.

B.V.R Subramanyam appointed as J&K Chief Secretary
ü  B.V.R. Subrahmanyam (Senior IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre) was appointed as new chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir.

ü  Former IAS officer Subhash Chandra Khuntia was today appointed as the new Chairman of Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for three-years.
ü  His appointment was approved by Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), IRDAI said in a statement
